The Critters of Belize

Our entire trip to Belize was full of new sites, beautiful creatures and WONDERFUL people. Here are just some of the critters we met on our adventure!

I had almost a sixth sense when it came to finding lizards and other "creepy crawlies" but I LOVE them. This little guy was hiding on some agricultural equipment at a gift shop we stopped at.

This sweet guy was a local dog we came across on a venture into the village of Hopkins.

A couple of cuties lounging around on the Hamanasi grounds.

Love this pretty kitty. She was one of Hamanasi's cats and she was very friendly and sweet.

One day I found her curled up in the plants on the Hamanasi grounds...so sweet.

A beautiful bird we saw on our Sittee River Kayak Tour.

If you look really close you can see just the head of a Crocodile we saw on our Sittee River Kayak Tour.

Four little bats all in a row. The little things like these bats are what you miss if you go too fast and don't stop to take in everything. Be patient on your adventures so you don't miss a thing!

An iguana sunning himself on the Sittee River Kayak Tour.

A big beetle we saw in St. Herman's Cave on the Cave and Jungle Tour.

Another bat, this time in St. Herman's Cave.

This little guy (a type of skink I believe) was sunning himself on the deck of a shop close to St. Herman's cave.

Yikes! Now I can't stand spiders but Ben was definitely excited when Golden lured this guy out of his hole, gives me the heebie jeebies!!!!

This Coral Snake was treking across the Hamanasi Grounds, definitely made me remember the old saying from Girl Scouts: "Red and Black, venom lack. Red and Yellow, kill a fellow." But not to worry, this guy definitely didn't want anything to do with us, as soon as he saw us walking down the path he was out of there at lightening speed!

This was probably one of my favorite land dwellers on the trip. He was just too cute. He is resting on Ben's thumb, barely an inch long. :)

We encountered this fellow at Half Moon Caye after diving The Blue Hole.

These birds are called Red Footed Boobies. There were many nesting on Half Moon Caye.

He almost blends in but I had no idea these guys could climb so high! He is resting atop a grove of trees on Half Moon Caye. This photo was taken from an observation tower.

This guy is probably the biggest Hermit Crab I have ever seen! I don't think my grandma would want to add him to her Hermit Crab collection, he's almost as big as her dog!

We saw so many other creatures, from scorpions to the Magnificent Frigate Bird. Ben and I enjoyed seeing so many animals, insects and fish. We can't wait to come back to see more!
